What is DMD Dentist?
When you look through a list of dentists that are operating in your area, you might notice that they sometimes have different qualifications mentioned after their names. Some of these dentists would have the DDS initials placed after their names, whereas others would use DMD. That might create some confusion due to the reason that you would begin to wonder what makes such a huge difference between the two without a shadow of a doubt, so we are going to try to clear things up for you at this current point in time.
DDS basically stands for Doctor of Dental Surgery, while DMD stands for Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry. That might lead you to believe that a DDS specializes in surgeries that are related to the mouth area, and that a DMD would be better suited to prescribing medicines and the like. However, we would like to tell you that these dentists in Chicago are pretty much all one and the same. Universities just choose to use different titles for the degrees they are bestowing, so a dentist using DDS or DMD could simply be a matter of what university they decided to go to.
As a result of the fact that this is the case, you should not let your dentist being a DMD or a DDS become a major factor in your decision making process in this regard. Doing so would lead to some false conclusions and you might avoid going to someone due to their title without realizing that it has no bearing on their skill set. Both types of dentists get more or less the same training, so there is no need to think of them separately.
